Oppenheimer wins 7 oscars including best picture in Oscars 2024

Oppenheimer won 7 oscars

The film Oppenheimer won 7 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. It also won awards for Best Editing and Best Cinematography. Ludwig Göransson also won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.

It was the first Oscar win for Murphy, Downey, and Nolan. The film received 13 nominations and grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide.

Christopher Nolan won Oscar for Best Director

Christopher Nolan cemented his status as one of the leading Oscar contenders with Oppenheimer on Sunday. Although the 53-year-old British visionary had received critical acclaim throughout his career, he had never won an Oscar. He was nominated best director for Dunkirk in 2017, and original screenwriter for Inception in 2010 and Memento in 2001.

Director Nolan took to the stage to point out that movies are over 100 years old and thanked the Academy for the honor .”We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here,” Nolan said. “But to know that you think I am a meaningful part of it means the world to me,” he added.

Nolan beat Jonathan Glazer in ‘Zone of Interest’, Yorgos Lanthimos in ‘Poor Things’, Martin Scorsese in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ and Justin in ‘Anatomy of the Fall.’

Nolan was encouraged by his wife Emma Thomas, who shared two Best Picture nominations with her husband for producing Dunkirk and Inception. His college sweetheart has co-produced all of his films since 1997.

Cillian Murphy won Best Actor for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer

Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who co-starred with Christopher Nolan six times over 20 years, has won his first Oscar. It was also his very first Oscar nomination.

Delighted and a little surprised by the win, he thanked his colleagues and his family. He dedicated his award to “all peacemakers”.

Murphy beat Coleman Domingo for “Rustin’,” Bradley Cooper for “Maestro,” Paul Giamatti for “The Holdovers,” and Jeffrey Wright for “American Fiction.”

Robert Downey Jr. won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor

Robert Downey Jr. won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Lewis Strauss. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Oppenheimer.

Downey Jr. hilariously thanked his “terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order” as well as his “veterinarian … sorry … wife, Susan Downey. She found me a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here,” he said

Downey Jr’s “little secret”, he said, was that “I needed this job more than it needed me … I stand here before you a better man because of it.”

However, he had to overcome a strong field, including Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon, Ryan Gosling for Barbie and Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things.
