Game Of Thrones creators reveal their most favorite death

Game of Thrones creators

Game Of Thrones is known for the fact that nobody, really no one, was safe over the course of its eight seasons – except maybe Jon Snow. But whose deaths was the most faviourites to the Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss?

With “3 Body Problem” on Netflix, the Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss currently have their next hit at the start. But the series creators also look back again and again on their time with the HBO cult series. They spoke in the podcast Happy Sad Confused about which characters they preferred to tailor death to as screenwriters.

With “Game Of Thrones” with its many deaths, you are of course spoilt for choice. But the writers quickly agreed: “In ‘Thrones,’ so many of the good guys were killed, and then we finally got to kill Joffrey in season 4 and Ramsay Bolton in season 6. It was fun to go back to the old-fashioned satisfaction of just taking a really bad guy around the corner… It felt like balancing the scales a little bit,” says D.B. Weiss.

Ramsay’s death scene was particularly satisfying to the Game of Thrones Creators

King Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) died from poisoned wine in “Game Of Thrones”. Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) later admits to the murder in her own hour of death. We’ve seen Joffrey die with agonizingly contorted features because of the poison. The death of the sadistic Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) wasn’t shown directly, but it was no less satisfying either. Because we experienced the moment through the eyes of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) who had previously been tormented by him.

Sansa imprisons Ramsay with his own hungry bloodhounds, who maul him to death. “You don’t really see death. You can see a little bit of it in the background, but you don’t directly see him dying. But what you see is Sophie’s or Sansa’s smiles,” David Benioff recalls.

Seeing that smile was very satisfying for the “Game Of Thrones” creators – and the scene had to be perfect. The whole sequence was filmed seven or eight times, Benioff recalls, until it was perfect. “Sophie was so good. When she finished the scene, I felt like I could die happy.”
