If you watch Marvel movies, you will often find hidden allusions and details in them. In “Captain America 2” aka “The Winter Soldier”, there is a very special Easter Egg to discover. The Marvel movie references Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is not only famous for superhero adventures and special effects, but also for so-called Easter eggs. You can discover the hidden references and small details only if you look very closely. Often, these little secrets are only revealed after several times – and make the viewing experience even more beautiful.
Most of the time, Marvel easter eggs reference other MCU movies and characters. But sometimes they reference other cinematic worlds as well. That’s what happens in the “Captain America” sequel “The Winter Soldier”. There is an easter egg in the movie that should delight not only MCU connoisseurs, but cinephiles in general.
After Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) fakes his death, we see a close-up of his tombstone for just under three seconds. If you pause at 124 minutes and 32 seconds, you can decipher the inscription under the name: “The path of the righteous man… Ezekiel 25:17,” is under Nick’s name.
Of course, film fans will get the reference right away. The line is the first line of the famous monologue from “Pulp Fiction”. The professional killer Jules Winnfield always delivers it when he is about to commit a murder. Like Nick Fury, Samuel L Jackson also played the character Winfield . The Easter egg shortly before the end of the film is a small homage to an actor whose roles have cult status far beyond the MCU. And of course also to Quentin Tarantino: Not only because of the repeated casting of Jackson in films like “Jackie Brown” or “The Hateful Eight”, the films of the cult director somehow form a universe of their own.
