Before Wolverine gets involved in “Deadpool 3”, Marvel fans can look forward to an extraordinary “X-Men” adventure: X-Men 97. Because on March 20, the cult mutants are celebrating a very special comeback – exclusively on Disney Plus.
After “Echo” and “The Marvels”, everything in the Marvel universe is currently revolving around the upcoming “Deadpool 3” movie(theatrical release: July 24). As the official title “Deadpool & Wolverine” already reveals – it will have a very special returnee up its sleeve. The ‘Merc with a mouth’ will dive into the multiverse and meet not only Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, but also Jennifer Garner’s Elektra among others. It is definitely the number 1 topic of conversation among MCU fans right now.
In front of Jackman, Garner and Co., however, another comeback is already in the house today. Because today, “X-Men 97”, the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic 90s animated series “X-Men”, starts on Disney+.
Exclusively on the streaming platform of Disney+, there will be two episodes of the sequel series at the start on March 20. Then the format will be expanded by one episode each on a weekly basis from next Wednesday (March 27). The season finale will then take place after ten episodes on May 15, 2024.
Cartoon Cult Revival: This is “X-Men 97”
After “X-Men ’97” was supposed to start in the fall of 2023, it took a little longer in the end. But more than 25 years after the end of the legendary “X-Men” animated series from the 90s, which once caused enthusiasm in this country and probably shaped the childhood of many of our readers, fans should not take the few months too badly against the creators. After all, they made a visible effort to revive the spirit of the original with great attention to detail. And so the preview of the new episodes – with the well-known drawing and animation style and the legendary theme – is also like a real journey back in time to childhood.
Good to know: On Disney+, you also have the opportunity to (re)watch the old “X-Men” episodes first before jumping into the new adventures of the mutant squad. The complete series from back then is also available on the streaming platform!
At the end of the series, which ran from 1992 to 1996 – beware, spoilers! – Professor X leaves his beloved mutants behind with a heavy heart, leaving them to fend for themselves – when suddenly Magneto claims that Professor X left him everything. From now on, he is to lead the X-Men. Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Jean Grey, Jubilee and Co. now have no choice but to trust their former enemy and work together with him when they have to deal with a new, particularly sinister adversary: Mister Sinister.
By the way, series creator Beau DeMayo (“The Witcher”, “Moon Knight”) was able to bring numerous original voice actors back in front of the microphone for the series revival. In the English version, you can expect the well-known voices of George Buza (Beast), Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue) and Chris Potter (Gambit) among others.
