James Gunn is currently filming “Superman: Legacy” with David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel. And also with David Corenswet as the villain? This wild Superman VS Superman rumor is currently making the rounds in Hollywood. There are also many indications that something like this might actually happen.
A few days ago, the scoopers of The Geeky Cast reported that David Corenswet will have a double role in James Gunn’s upcoming film “Superman: Legacy”. In the meantime, other Scoopers are providing similar clues. The scooper Can We Get Some Toast also reports that Corenswet will play Ultraman in addition to Superman. But it will be in an interpretation that differs from the comics. In the meantime, The Geeky Cast has also provided details and revealed more information they have from their sources. We summarize everything for you and classify why there might be something to it.
Allegedly, in James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy”, Lex Luthor uses Superman’s DNA to create an evil clone of the superhero. This story also exists in the comics, where this clone is called Bizarro. James Gunn, however, calls him Ultraman. This might be because he probably uses many elements of this comic book character. In the originals, Ultraman is actually an evil version of Superman from another Earth of the multiverse.
Superman vs. Superman – Multiverse in DC?
Although Ultraman is a clone here, according to the Scoopers, Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” movie is already said to contain multiverse elements. The idea that there are different parallel worlds would be introduced right at the beginning of the new DCU. The award-winning Elseworld comic “Kingdom Come” serves as inspiration for the film. But the comic is set in a future in which different heroes fight against each other. It should therefore only be a very loose inspiration and not a template for the actual story itself.
How reliable is the information?
We have to emphasize that these are still rumours at the moment. They also come from scoopers who, in the past, have always been able to come up with accurate information. But sometimes they were also wrong because they trusted only one source and did not confirm statements with a second. So, there is a possibility this news may not be true.
However, it’s possible that at least the rough framework is correct. There are several scoopers who report independently of each other and seem to be very sureof it. In addition, fans have already been able to collect numerous clues that seem to confirm the rumors.
James Gunn posted a picture of David Corenswet’s dog in his director’s chair on the social media service Threads. Fans were surprised by the colour and motif design of the chair. Blue, yellow, red – all of this fits Superman. But the shades that are used are more like Ultraman’s outfit. Also the fact that the iconic S logo was missing, but the red symbol is a small arc, also seems to point more to Ultraman.
Whether it really comes to a fight between two supermen, we will find out next year in the cinema. “Superman: Legacy” is set to launch on July 11, 2025. It’ll usher in the new DC era, the DCU, on the big screen. Another important building block will be “Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow”. Learn more about this film here.
