Maisie is ashamed of an embarassing ‘Game Of Thrones’ accident

Maisie Game of Thrones

“Game Of Thrones” features Maisie Williams as fan favorite Arya Stark, who becomes an increasingly good fighter with her sword Needle over the course of eight seasons. But turning with a sword wasn’t always easy for Maisie.

The fact that actors sometimes injure themselves, especially when filming action scenes, is nothing new. When there is fighting, even if it’s just as a stunt, it can sometimes be eye-catching. Jake Gyllenhaal, for example, recently had to painfully experience this while filming the “Road House” remake for Amazon Prime Video. And Maisie Williams also injured herself during the filming of “Game Of Thrones”. However, she was extremely embarrassed by the way this situation came about because the actress inflicted the injury on herself with her sword.

In the podcast Armchair Expert, her interviewee Dax Shepard asked her if she had ever done something really foolish as a right-hander. Because ironically, Arya Stark is actually a left-hander. Then Maisie Williams was able to unpack a “Game Of Thrones” story:

Difficult Sword Twist

“Yes, something happened to me, it was a combination of several people’s mistakes. I don’t want to say it was completely my fault,” Maisie recalls filming an action scene. In this scene, she had to ram her sword into the breastplate of the Hound. Of course the sword doesn’t go through because of the armor – it curves on impact.

“They wanted to get a nice close-up of the bent sword. But we had to shoot with a real sword, just because of the close-up, and that’s not so easy to bend,” Maisie continues. She tried to push the sword in and bend it properly. A lot of people were telling her how to do it at that moment – “there were a lot of cooks involved all of a sudden, you know?”

And as is the case with many cooks, they spoil the broth. Unsettled, Maisie Williams twirled the sword and rammed it into her eyebrow. “For the rest of the day, they had to film me from the other side because I had a gigantic bump,” Maisie said, embarrassed. “It was so embarrassing!”

At the moment of the accident, she had heard everyone around her sucking in the air sharply. Back then all she could think was: “Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.”
