As Nicolas Cage starred as Spider-Man Noir in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, he is the absolute dream candidate for Amazon’s live-action series about the comic book hero. Now the actor is speaking out.
He was one of the highlights in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. Nicolas Cage voiced Spider-Man Noir, a trench coat and bowler hat-wearing hero who comes from the 30s into the world of our hero Miles Morales and helps him save the multiverse. But Spider-Man Noir and Cage did not return for the sequel ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’. But recently fans were able to rejoice in the news that Amazon Prime Video, in cooperation with Sony, is taking on its own live-action series around the grumpy comic book hero.
In mid-February, the first rumors were heard that the absolute fan’s dream could come true and that Nicolas Cage could not only lend his voice to the superhero in the series this time, but also completely embody it. Now the actor has commented on the rumors and is fueling them further.
Nicolas Cage as Humphrey Bogart Spidey?
Nicolas Cage explained in an interview that there have indeed already been talks about the “Spider-Man Noir” series – and he continues to be on fire for the unusual comic book hero. He already has some ideas on how to bring the character to life in the series:
“Well, I can say we’ve talked about it. It’s no secret that I love the character. I think the character is a bit of a mix. I can combine all the performances of the golden age, for example [Edward G.] Robinson, [James] Cagney, [Humphrey] Bogart, with a character who is one of Stan Lee’s masterpieces. I see it as a kind of raid on a pop art mash-up, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein mixed with Bogart and Cagney, but nothing has been decided yet. So far, there have only been talks.”
So whether we’ll actually see Nicolas Cage as a Humphrey Bogart-esque Spidey in the Amazon series is not certain yet. The Spider-Man noir comics were first published in 2009 and show the anti-hero in the gloomy New York of the 1930s, where he puts an end to criminals against the backdrop of the American economic crisis.
