Spider-Verse new animation released: Not what you think!

Spider-Verse story

“Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” is not only a highlight among the Marvel adventures, but was even one of the best films of 2023. Part 3 is still a long time coming, but a short film already brings us a reunion with Miles Morales.

The terrific animated adventure “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” was able to top its already fabulous predecessor “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” in pretty much every way. So it’s no wonder that the Marvel spectacle is one of the best comics adaptations ever.

It’s all the more agonizing (also in view of the nasty cliffhanger ending) that we have to wait longer than planned for the trilogy conclusion. “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse” still hasn’t been given a new theatrical release date. If we’re lucky, it could be by the end of 2024. But sadly everything is slowly pointing to a release in 2025. Now, however, the Sony studio has surprisingly released a little snack for in between, which makes the waiting time at least a little more pleasant.

Stream “The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story” completely free of charge

The short film “The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story” can be accessed completely free of charge on YouTube. In the 7-minute film, Miles Morales struggles to balance his duties as a teenager, friend and student with his life as Spider-Man. After a particularly challenging day, Miles has a panic attack that forces him to face his fears. In the process, he learns that enlisting the help of others is just as courageous as protecting his city from evil.

So this time, “The Spider Within” isn’t about Miles saving New York, let alone the multiverse. Instead, he’s fighting a battle with his own inner demons – and there’s a special reason for that. The project is a collaboration between Sony and the Kevin Love Fund. Basketball pofessional Kevin Love founded it to draw attention to and educating people about mental health.

The short film is also part of Sony’s New Story-tellers program. It gives selected people from underrepresented groups the opportunity to gain leadership experience in animation. This also includes the implementation of an original short film in an already known world from Sony’s animated film division.

“The Spider Within” comes from newcomers Jarelle Dampier (director) and Khailia Amazan (screenplay). They have not only fulfilled their own dreams, but also focus on an important problem. They also gave all “Spider-Verse” fans a (dark) reunion with Miles Morales in the usual upbeat comic style of movies. The original voice actors Shameik Moore and Brian Tyree once again lent their voices to Miles and his father.
