Kristen Stewart has made a name for herself as a celebrated character actress and indie star (including an Oscar nomination for the biopic “Spencer”). In blockbusters, on the other hand, the former “Twilight” star is rarely seen. In the past, she has often made no secret that she is not the biggest fan of the big-budget studio system in Hollywood. However, she is not against big productions per se, as she now clarified in the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast. “I like big movies because I want people to watch them when I’m in them,” she said. But Kristen Stewart recently revealed that she might star in a Marvel movie under some very specific conditions.
Stars nowadays are usually inevitably asked whether they would like to get involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The comic book universe is still the most successful blockbuster franchise (despite some problems in the recent past). However, Kristen Stewart seems to be anything but keen on this. She said in the podcast that it sounds like a “fucking nightmare” to make a superhero movie. But then she left a back door open.
Kristen Stewart would become a Marvel heroine For the “Barbie” director
“The system would have to change. You’d have to put so much money and trust into a single person and that’s not happening,” Stewart said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “What happens instead is this formulaic, weird experience that you can’t build any personal feeling about at all.”
It sounds as if the 33-year-old wishes that individual filmmakers with a clear creative vision would get more freedom and control in such studio productions. Such a filmmaker, who could even persuade her to rethink is Greta Gerwig. “If Greta Gerwig were to make a Marvel movie, I’d be there,” she said
So if the Hollywood world really does change and the “Barbie” director can realize a Marvel spectacle according to her ideas, we might one day get to see Kristen Stewart as a superhero on the big screen after all. At the moment, however, all this would only be wishful thinking. In the MCU, mastermind Kevin Feige still has a firm grip on the creative strings.
The next stop on the schedule is the long-awaited sequel “Deadpool 3” aka “Deadpool & Wolverine”. It will be in cinemas from July 24, 2024. Kristen Stewart’s next movie is the acclaimed romantic thriller “Love Lies Bleeding,” which will be in theaters from June 13.
